HVAC

This is one program, start to finish. You begin with NCCER Introductory Craft Skills, the 40-hour CORE credential every craft requires, and move straight into HVAC Level 1 the week it ends. You register for both at the same time. No gap, no second application, no waiting for the next term to open.

HVAC Level 1 is the entry level course, approved as the 1st year of schooling for a 4-year apprenticeship. Most licensed tradesmen in Virginia go through a 4-year apprenticeship, with 4 levels of schooling. CCWA offers all 4 levels of schooling.

Apprenticeship Note: CCWA provides the required classroom instruction. Registered apprenticeship employment must be established separately with an employer.

Credential: NCCER CORE and NCCER HVAC Level 1

Schedule: Daytime or evening

This class is structured as a in-person class, with live classroom/lab training. Students learn the following content:

• Introduction to the HVAC Profession
• HVAC Trade Math

• Ferrous Metal Piping Practices
• Basic Electricity
• Introduction to Cooling
• Introduction to Heating & Air Distribution Systems

NOTE: Registration in NCCER CORE, or previous NCCER CORE certification, is required for enrollment in HVAC Level 1. Already have your CORE credential? Call us — you may be able to enter Level 1 directly.

What's Included in Tuition?

This class serves as the second level of training in the HVAC craft. Level 1 is a prerequisite unless enrollment is approved by a Program Coordinator.

Students are required to purchase the current HVAC Code book for class. Computer and internet access are required for this hybrid class.

• Chimneys, Vents, and Flues
• Introduction to Hydronic Systems
• Air Quality Equipment
• Leak Detection, Evacuation, Recovery, and Charging
• Alternating Current
• Basic Electronics; Introduction to Circuit Troubleshooting
• Troubleshooting Gas Heating
• Troubleshooting Cooling
• Heat Pumps
• Basic Installation and Maintenance Practices
• Sheet Metal Duct Systems

• NCCER HVAC Level 2 credential upon successful completion
• Updated record in the NCCER Registry
