Medication Administration Course

Class Description

Offered in partnership with Fresh Start. The 68-hour Medication Administration Course is approved by the Virginia Board of Nursing and designed to prepare individuals to safely administer or assist with the administration of medications in assisted living settings. This program includes training in essential skills such as conducting blood sugar checks and administering insulin injections.

Course Format

  • 44 hours of online instruction
  • 24 hours of supervised clinical training at an assisted living facility

Tuition & Fees

  • Total Tuition: $2,700 (includes textbook, classroom materials, and the $70 certification exam fee)
  • Application Fee: $50 (not included in tuition)

Pre-Requisites

Applicants must submit a certificate of completion for one of the following before the course start date:

  • 40-hour Direct Patient Care program approved by the Virginia Department of Social Services
  • 40-hour Personal Care Assistant program approved by Virginia Medicaid (hybrid format acceptable; fully online programs are not accepted)
  • Virginia-approved Nurse Aide course certificate (must reflect a minimum of 120 hours and be signed by a Registered Nurse) or a valid Virginia CNA license

Additional Requirements

  • Current TB (PPD) test or Chest X-Ray
  • Virginia State Police background check, including a sex offender registry search (not city/county level)
